Rossi B & Luca feat Nikki S & Nyke – Da Next Level

Back in 2003 I was doing a weekly in Austin called "Get Broke!" (with Tyler & Wilb). At the time, we were playing a heavy dose of West London broken beats, lots of Compost/Sonar Kollektiv, hip-hop, electro, Detroit (and basically anything else we felt like throwing in the mix). Naturally, some garage and 2-step stuff fit with what we were doing, and later, grime and dubstep, at least what would later become known as such.

Anyway, one of our regulars (Masmota) handed me a CD one night after I had dropped a few new "dark tribal broken beat" tracks (Benny Ill, Kode9 & Culprit - Fat Larry's Skank was a particular fav). That CD (featured below) had just come out and featured a whole hour of the rough, darker, bass-heavy sounds I was craving. I literally wore that CD out. It got so scratched I finally had to retire it.

And so I thought it was gone forever until recently. I applied a bit of toothpaste to fix the scratches, ripped it to disc and was surprised and thrilled to hear it again, skip-free. I later found a tracklisting!

This mix is still absolutely tearin and oughtta give a bit of history to anyone (outside of the UK especially) following dubstep, funky, grime and so on.
